Girls Against God Debut Issue Launch

Girls Against God
Debut Issue Launch
with a special performance by Kembra Pfahler
Thursday, July 18, 6-8 PM @ Printed Matter, NYC

We’re happy to launch the first issue of Girls Against God (or G.A.G.), a biannual feminist arts magazine from Bianca Casady of CocoRosie and artist Anne Sherwood Pundyk.

Hosted by Co-Editor Anne Sherwood Pundyk, the event will feature readings by issue contributors:

Johanna Constantine
Molly O’Brien
Mary Hanlon

and a special performance by:

Kembra Pfahler

G.A.G. is a boldly feminist exploration and multi-generational endeavor, deploying the arts to illuminate the oppressive, obsolete nature of traditional, male-defined religions and other patriarchal institutions. “We must resist and reinvent,” Casady declares.

The debut issue is a colorful tabloid-sized print publication, showcasing provocative, original artwork alongside comprehensive essays and interviews with an international cadre of artists.

G.A.G. Issue 1 contributors include: Antony, Gabby Bess, Melanie Bonajo, Vaginal Davis, Yasmine Hadan, Emely Neu, Kembra Pfahler, Marguerite Stern, Alexyss K. Tylor; and contributions from Johanna Constantine, Mary Hanlon, Julie Higonnet, Molly O’Brien, Chloe Olewitz, Alice O’Malley, Kara L. Rooney, and Jean Marc Ruellan.

Girls Against God is published by Capricious, available through Printed Matter here. View the Facebook invite

Another Pamphlet Launch at Printed Matter Tonight

Another Pamphlet : Issue Launch & Reception

Thursday May 2 : 6-8PM

Printed Matter, NYC

Symmetry surrounds us. It’s present in ancient Greek mosaics, medieval churches, the human body, the arrangement of atoms in a crystal, flowers, arguments, and the laws of quantum mechanics. Paradoxically, whereas the 20th century saw the disciplines of mathematics, physics, and philosophy expanding their engagement with symmetry, architecture largely turned away from it.

After a century of asymmetry, what might symmetry offer us now that we’ve missed along the way? This issue claims symmetry as an urgently relevant topic, precisely because it’s so glaringly not a topic in contemporary discourse.

With contributions by: Leo Henke, Isaiah King, Ajay Manthripragada, Giancarlo Mazzanti, Michael Meredith, Ryan Neiheiser, Sarah Oppenheimer Emmanuel Petit, Galia Solomonoff, Giancarlo Valle and Michael Young

Above all, another pamphlet is a conversation, a loose exchange of forms and ideas, an excuse to play, a frame through which to look, a shared excitement. It is an open dialogue with our friends, our histories, and our surroundings.

Meaning both “more of the same” and “something different”, “another” contains the seeds of both continuity and change. Another pamphlet mines this contradiction – this tension between past and future – opportunistically interrogating, critiquing, and celebrating the discipline of architecture.

The game is simple. One pamphlet, multiple voices, infinite directions.

another pamphlet was founded by Giancarlo Valle, Isaiah King, and Ryan Neiheiser

E Il Topo

Red Letter Edition
Launch and Performance
With John Lurie and Steve Piccolo
Saturday, November 17th, 5-7pm

E Il Topo launches the publication of the first issue from the “Red Letter” series, in parallel with the ongoing releases of the magazine. This new initiative will involve artists who utilize writing as a complementary part of their work, but also as an intimate, private mode of expression. Stories are printed in red as though to make the writing itself into an image. The first issue features stories by two members of the legendary band The Lounge Lizards: Steve Piccolo and (special guest) John Lurie.

Join us for a special performance/reading with Steve Piccolo and John Lurie. Red Letter retails for $10 and can be purchased through the Printed Matter website here.
