October News and Events

ARLIS (The Art Libraries Society of North America), in collaboration with Printed Matter‘s NY Art Book Fair, is hosting the New York Contemporary Artists’ Book Conference at various locations on the weekend of October 22-26.  Of note, is the discussion: ‘Multiple Ideas: Artists’ Periodicals as Site for Collaboration and Distribution of Ideas’ moderated by David Senior with a panel featuring Matt Keegan of North Drive Press, David Reinfurt of Dexter Sinister and Dot Dot Dot, and Emily Roysdon of LTTR.   Registration is $125.

The Printed Matter NY Art Book Fair is this same weekend (Oct. 22-26).  This year it will be in a new location at Phillips de Pury.  The last two years have been great.  Entry is free.

The following weekend is the Editions/Artists’ Book Fair in Chelsea.  Check out their website for a list of events taking place at and around the fair that weekend, Oct. 31-Nov. 2.

Cabinet Magazine is hosting some events in their new space.  The first is a party for the second issue of the magazine: The Happy Hypocrite, on Friday Oct. 24th from 7-11pm. (The September issue of the British magazine Art Review has a review of The Happy Hypocrite on page 34.)  On Halloween night, Cabinet is hosting an event from 8-11pm for the Slought Foundation DVD releases.  And they are hosting a screening the following evening, Nov. 1st at 6pm, of the world’s first full-length animated film, ‘The Adventures of Prince Achmed.’  This will be followed by a discussion and cocktail reception, and is not to be missed! All events are free.

The Thing is doing a whole bunch of things in NYC this fall.

Make sure to save the date for Tuesday, December 2 at 7pm when The Kitchen hosts an evening with Farimani.  Farimani “presents an evening of performances and discussions with recent and upcoming contributors.”

Also of note is the September/October issue of Art on Paper.  This issue features a nice article about the future of zines and periodicals called ‘God Save the Zine.’  Read part of the article here.

  2. rae022 says:

This is not a book. It was a conference held in New York City about Artist’s Books, organized by ARLIS (Art Libraries Society of North America), The Museum of Modern Art Library, The Brooklyn Museum Library, The New York Public Library, Printed Matter, and others.

Attendees of the conference did receive a book published especially for the event by Dexter Sinister. Copies of this publication may still be available at their bookstore at 38 Ludlow Street in New York City’s Lower East Side. The bookstore is open on Saturdays from 12-6pm only.
